It's the second year since Alice Black and Kanni Merrane had came to Clarissa Institute to learn how to train their abnormal powers. The two, along with Kaleb and Premidas, had overcome the rebirth of Remus and the return of Alice's godfather Gabriel. Perhaps they will over come everything this year with difficult or not...

Premidas's eyes followed Tash until she turned the corner, running as if for her own life. Then he fixed his eyes on Alice and dropped down next to her, lightly tapping her shoulders. "Alice? You okay? Are you still awake?"
"Yes, dumb ass," Alice hissed between heavy breaths. Premidas growled from the back of his throat. "Brad is so gonna get it for this," the shape-shifter snarled.
"For you and I both!" Premidas began to get to his knees when he saw the familiar milthacti turn the corner and freeze.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~```
"Brad! What'd you do?!" Kanni gasped. Premidas's eyes shot up at her as Tash hurried away to find Kaleb. Brad's eyes also widened in surprise. He hadn't expected her, had he? Well she had a habit of turning up when ever you were trying to hide something. "Alice, you okay?" Kanni rushed forward and dropped to her knees next to the Verae. "Are you crazy!? Firing your lasers on her directly like that?!" she screamed at Brad who looked flushed and ashamed. He jammed his fists into his pockets and shuffled his right foot. "No, look at me!" Kanni commanded and raised a hand. Instantly his chin lifted and his eyes locked on hers.
"What the hell are you doing?!" He seemed to struggle against something.
Kanni dropped her hand with minor shock. She hadn't realized she had used her powers. Lately she didn't feel the energy leaving her. Brad rubbed his chin and snarled, "We were just fighting. It's not like she wouldn't have fought back hadn't that "thing" shown up."
And then he turned on his heel and headed down the hall, ending the discussion and ignoring Kanni yells. Finally she had enough. If Alice didn't get the chance to strike at him, then she'd just have to replace her and make up for it. "Ua!" Brad shrieked as a sudden small gargoyel brimming a door frame made a pukeing sound and spit thick greenish slime all over the student. Brad took off down the hall, swearing about the disgusting mess that now covered him.
Kanni, satisfied, turned back to Alice and Prem. "She okay?"
"Not really, but I'll live," Alice answered back.
"Alice?" Kaleb now was racing down the halls with Tash not far behind. "What in the hell happened?"
"Brad got to her with a gang of his friends." Premidas answered with disgust.
"Then I hope Alice got a good swing at him!"
"No, sorry....Took your advice to stay outta fights, and now see where that got me." Alice puffed, trying to prop herself up on her elbows.
"Don't worry though, Kanni made a gargoyel statue puke on him. Don't ask me how, but he didn't completely get away un-harmed. But I assure you, he'll be in the hospital for weeks as soon as I get my hands on him!" Premidas declared heatedly, both fists so tightly balled up his knuckles turned white.
"You won't do anything, Premidas. It could get you in more trouble," Tash spoke up with a firm voice. She placed a hand on Prem's shoulder and squeezed it tightly with warning. But Prem didn't even seem to feel her.
"Let him, Tash. He deserves it." Kanni retorted.
"Oh, so you're for him attacking students?"
"No! All I'm saying is if he doesn't, I will." Kanni and Tash coldly stared back at each other. And Kaleb, knowing Tash a bit from meeting her a few years before, could tell that she and Kanni would butt heads nicely. And since Tash had no powers, and Kanni had an assortement, the milthacti might harm the girl powerless to defend herself...unintentionally, of course, he hoped.
"Okay, okay, girls. We'll deal with Brad later. But now we need to get Alice to the hospital, okay? She needs to say hi to Madame Lunna again anyways." Kaleb shoved away Tash and Kanni and with Prem's help picked Alice up, taking small steps towards the elevator.
"I could transform and carry her-" Premidas offered but Kaleb shook his head.
"No, thanks though. Let's do this without powers. Too many things have been going wrong lately."
Kanni rose a brow. There were problems before she school started again? Or was he talking about the day and last year? Tash hopped forward and wrapped an arm around Prem's. "You'll still show me around later though, right? And help me move into my room?"
"Sure," Premidas mumbled back as he paged the elevator and allowed Kaleb carrying Alice in fisrt. The shape-shifter was awake and aware of what was happening, but didn't object to being carried and was silent, eyeing Tash curiously. Finally she asked, "Who's she?"
"Oh, this is Tash. A childhood friend of mine and-"
"-also Mr. Ulthra's, your teacher's, great, great grandchild." Tash finished for Premidas and smiled. "You're Alice. Alie Black. I've heard of you."
"She doesn't have powers. She's just visiting here for a while." Premidas added.
"For around six to seven months." Tash corrected. Alice nodded in understanding. This would be interesting.
"So what are you going to do while we're in our classes?" Kaleb asked.
"I'll be taken about the school, introduced to all the teachers, studying magical stuff...and then, maybe in a few days to weeks I'll be going into the classes with you all to see what goes on. I may even take the tests that don't require much magic...you know, like brewing, cureology, the study of ancient magical languages, and such."
The elevator stopped and Kaleb trudged out, taking a right. Premidas waved a hand and the doors easily swung open. Kanni shot him a confused look and then suddenly remembered at the very first day of school last year he had said he had a light brush of telekenisis. And also he had used it to put crepe paper up in the arches for the school dance. Tash looked up at him with rounded awed eyes, and a coy smile. Kanni scowled. She was so flirting with him. Too bad he didn't even notice....well, not yet at least.
Kaleb headed into the hospital and yelled, "Madame Lunna! One of your best patients is here to see you again!" Almost instantly the plump short woman waddled up to them. Her long curly blue hair was stacked up like pancakes, making it look like she had a bee hive wrapped within her hair. Kanni guessed it was the style back then. A style Madame Lunna forgot to drop as she moved further into the century.
"Alice Black! Nice to see you both again, Alice and Kanni. What can I do for you?" the woman asked, watching Kaleb shift Alice in his arms.
"Brad attacked her with his eye lasers. I'm afraid she might be a bit hurt." Premidas growled.
"Ah...that boy really is the trouble-maker around here, isn't he? If you don't watch out, Mr. Anthen, he might even surpass you and your history of tricks and pranks." Madame Lunna waved a hand and Alice was taken from Kaleb's hands and set into the nearest bed. "No run along, all of you. This will only take an hour and if everything goes well she'll be back and up and running by the feast dinner tonight. Go along now, or she'll miss the feast." Madame Lunna's eyes twinkled. "And I've heard they've got a specially good feast made this year to celebrate their new welcomed staff.
"But you all may come back and pick her up in an hour, okay? Help her a little, but she should be fine for the most part. I'm now quite experienced within dealing with Mr. Brad's laser burns."
"Okay." Kanni, Kaleb, Tash, and Premidas all reluctantly turned around and headed out. Kanni didn't want to leave Alice all alone in the hospital again...they had been there so much it didn't feel right if Kanni wasn't in the bed right next to Alice's, bandaged and bruised too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was late and just an hour away from the feast. Kanni, Kaleb, and Tash had gone to pick up Alice from the hospital so they could go and get good seats at in the Great Hall. But here Premidas was, sitting in front of Clarissa with his feet kicked up onto the rim of her desk. The pricipal rested her chin on her folded hands and shifted the rimless glasses she used for reading higher onto her nose. "Premidas...what are we going to do with you? This is the thirteenth time you and Brad have gotten into a fight! What is the matter with you these days? You were always a trouble-maker but ever since Kanni and Alice came it seemed you had settled down and had not been so restless..."
"We had a lot to focus our energy on last year." Premidas sighed and ran his fingers through his white hair before crossing his arms tightly. His head lolled to the side, resting on his left shoulder as he wore a bored expression.
He had defied Tash and had run into Brad, not letting the dumb ass leave until they were in a pretty good tangle. Now a bandage stretched from his right chin side all the way up his cheek. His stomach was bruised as well and both knuckles and hands were wrapped in white cloth. The left side of his lip was slightly thicker than normal and split, letting still slow blood ooze out the corner of his mouth every now and then. But he had gotten the good end of the fight. Brad was in the hospital with a shattered fist and a good split and swollen lip with two black eyes. That should teach him to mess with his friends.
Premidas had always been a restless soul, always looking for action which usually was tagged with trouble. And if nothing was happening Premidas would merely create and incident. It was what he had always done. But he never fought or beat someone up without a good reason, and this was a good enough reason for him. Clarissa, even though any other pricipal would have years ago, never threw him out or suspended him. She was the closest to a real good mother he ever had. His father and oldest sister were killed on the hijacked subway (check c.i: year I) and his mother was never really that good of a mother even before the freak accident. Clarissa seemed like the closest to a mother he could ever have.
And she understood him like no other adult did. And maybe that's why she kept him in the school. Because she knew who ever he fought with really deserved it. It was her way of punishing a student that she couldn't punish by school regulation: let Premidas loose on them and pretend not to know until after the student was hospitalized.
But thirteen times? Clarissa sighed. "Prem, we have to think of a punishment...but I've nearly run out of all the ones I can think of!"
"Then don't punish me," the animagus answered bluntly.
"You know very well I can't let you get away with this, Mr. Anthen. I love you to death, but I have to drill some manners into your brain! You can't just go around and beat up Brad because you don't like him."
"You're right. And I don't, and I don't like him either. But Brad deserved it every time it came!" Premidas argued. Clarissa sighed again. He had said that same line every time he was pulled into her office.
"Well...why does he deserve it this time?"
"He lasered Alice in the halls with his gang. She couldn't even fight back!"
"And he got suspended by our hall specter. He got punished."
"Not good enough," Premidas growled and stared at the floor with dropped angry brows.
"Premidas, I think you should just leave him alone and let me handle him. Tell me when he does stuff, but don't go fight with him. After all, don't you care that you also get hurt in process? how is your arm?"
Premidas winced as he lifted up the black sweater sleeve. As he had jumped Brad he had gotten a good shot in the arm which resulted as a bad burn even after Madame Lunna's healing. It was darkly burned and had a bandage going from shoulder to elbow on his left arm. Kanni would really blow his head off when she heard what he had done. Not to mention Tash would be furious with both Kanni and him as well. He groaned. "Well, how about you think about it and let me know after the feast. I want to see if Alice is okay and see if the rate of hits matches her health recovery."
Miss Clarissa dropped both brows and scowled. "Premidas Darry Anthen! Did I really just hear those words come from your mouth?!"
Premidas grumbled a low "yes" and glared at the floor.
Clarissa regarded him a moment and then dropped her shoulders. "Get your feet off my desk. Does it look like a foot rest to you?! And get out of here. I will think about it and call you back though, and if I hear any more trouble out of you between now and until then, then I will seriously suspend you for three days! All the work you'll have to make up will help you think about other things than fighting, won't it, Mr. Anthen?"
"Sure, let's just say that." Premidas retorted. He pulled his feet from the pricipal's desk and trudged out the door, leaving a seething Clarissa as he strolled down the halls, hoping for Brad's sake that Alice was nearly fine now just as Madame Lunna had promised.

"I swear it! These wounds will never heal the way you're at it!" Madam Lunna had been yelling at the top of her fragile lungs at the trashing shape-shifter, trying to avoid the needle that the woman had been offering to her. Alice would rather let the burns naturally heal than to have another method have their turn to prove that they can heal. Nurses had begun to try and retrieve Gabriel or even Clarissa into the Hospital wing to try and talk some sense into Alice. The others had just left to Lunna's command to go and join the great feast planned for the first day back to the school. And then when the head nurse had spun around to pick up the flying needle, the girl had shifted into a rather large bird, into an owl that spanned it's wings to be let free, flying through the open windows. If only it had been real...Alice was still in her seat, slightly imaging things from time to time. Then the needle slide into her skin as she let out a scream and soon felt herself to become tired. No, Alice wanted to stay awake. She wanted her revenge on Brad for thinking that she was so helpless and scared because of Remus when the wizard was the one to give her these new developing powers.
"All patched up and done, Alice Black! Perhaps next time you will be more carefull and fight back next time. That boy had been getting into so many fights with Premidas and other little ones!" And then they were all gone once more, leaving Alice with an empty agenda. She already knew that Kanni, Kaleb and Tash were waiting outside waiting to pick the shape-shifter up, and now Brad was in the bed beside Alice's, swearing loudly and heavily. It gave Alice something to feel better about, then looking down at her own hands to find the silver vapor rising from the skin once more, coiling slowly and dreamy around her wrists and around each slender finger. This power scared her than anything else and wanted to know what Gabriel was really planning to do here. Was she, a Verae, some test subject of Clarissa to prove to the gifted world that Veraes could live as normal people? No. Clarissa was like a mother to all of them. Alice couldn't see the woman doing something like that.
"You bloody better be seated where you are young lady!" Apparently Madam Lunna had set a portrait above Alice, screaming when the shape-shifter lifted herself off of the bed. His eyes were large and blue, nearly bald and wore clothes that were too big for the small elder. "If you take one more step I'll be screaming for Madam Lunna and kingdom come to here! So if you were smart, Miss Black, you'd get back into your bed and await the healing of your burns!"
"Have you been watching me since I got in or something? Since it's really none of your buisness in case you wonder why I ask." This was stupid. Now everyone in the school was watching her as if Alice was a threat to others and herself. Brad deserved to be killed if anything, anyone did who blamed her for something that she had no control over. The shape-shifter had even saved the school and nearly 600 people. Why didn't anyone praise her for that instead of fearing and hating her? And then the door opened as Kaleb walked in, looking slightly worried and humble with themselves to find Brad moaning in a bed next to the bed which the shape-shifter was seated on with the portrait letting out a huge sigh of relief.
"What happened to you Brad? Must've run into someone with a grudge against you," sneered Kaleb with a toothy grin, fingering the loose metal and leather choker tie as the boy let out a groan becoming aware of what Kaleb had just said. "You need to pick your opponets more wisely...if you know what I mean."
" Ha ha, Kaleb, very funny." This time Alice had spoken, feeling slightly helpless in her own defense. "Don't tell me that Kanni or Tash have killed themselves...If so, did Kanni kill Tash or did it go the other way around. It would be a shame if it did..."
"Nah, neither of them killed each other... yet. They got stopped by Themrus to pass out flyers to some dance tomorrow night to celebrate the new year and to rehearse on the speeches. My mother found that if she announced it somewhere where students would die if they didn't go, they would pay more attention," said Kaleb, sitting on the foot of her bed to wince at several needles hanging from the cieling, their finest point stuck into the wall. "Let me guess, you?"
"It's uncontrollable when I fell threatened. But it all comes out to the conclusion that I'm a worse freak than last year. We're all freaks, which makes us different I guess," sighed Alice, laying back on the large pillow and asked, "Flirted with anyone yet?"
"Why should I? We all know that somethings have happened between us that I don't want to break and flirting with mindless girls would break it." He was now very close to Alice, who had been nearly afraid to breath and felt her heart race ahead of her. Finally the shape-shifter got the courage to respond, "Well then, look to your left and behind you because they've been watching ever since you walked in."
" Hem hem." Brad had indeed been watching to two, folding his arms as he looked odd glaring at the two with his two black and bruised eyes with one of his cheeks swollen badly. Kaleb looked slightly disappointed and pulled away from Alice suggesting, "I guess I'd better sign you out so you can get dressed and ready for the feast."
"But why wait?" The shape-shifter leapt up from the bed, leaning the portrait onto the bed so it's voice would be muffled walking away with Kaleb with her arm locked in his to the door where Kaleb turned around to point and yell at Brad, "You touch one hair on Alice and you'll need something more than a cure!"
--"Is this really how you feel? Or is this just how you're supposed to feel?"
The wardrobe wasn't much help in room #131, Alice's room. The clothes were organized by how the new house elves like them, not how the shape-shifter was used to the way Gabriel had done them back home during the entire summer. The beds had new sheets compared to last years and the room seemed to be more colorfull and more brighter than ever. The shape-shifter still clawed through her closet. Kaleb had gone somewhere else, promising to meet her infront of the main doors where the feast would take place. Finally, after nearly thirty minutes, Alice had decided on her dark denim jeans, a black sweater with the design of two wings on the back sewn into the clothe to match her silverish hair and still wore the scarf, reminded of how cold it was in the entire school by finding frost caked onto the windows. Several things had only changed in the entire room compared to the school, and it would be something Alice would try hard to remember this year compared to the last.
Students were already beginning to make their way to the feast, some even talked about the fight that Alice and Brad got in to. It nearly had ruined the whole goal of hers' to try and not think about it all until a more important moment came along. Then it became even harder when most had found out that Alice had been listening.
"I mean, come on! How does she really think she is?"
"I know! Flirting with Kaleb and all when he's only faking it!"
"And what's with Kanni? Shouldn't that girl be terrified of it all too?"
"They're probaly working together to bring Remus back!"
"Didn't I tell you that you shouldn't be getting into fights, Prem?" And this was interesting to Alice to find Premidas staring at the floor, newly bruised as Kaleb infront of him. "My mother will think of a good punishment now, throwing away the fact that you're as much of a son to her as I am! You need to stop getting into fights with Brad and Kanni is starting to get pissed too!"
"You can't just let him gang up on Alice and expect him to get away with it! For heaven's sake Kaleb, I thought you found Alice more than a sister!" Hissed Premidas. "I won't let that smart ass get away with it all, no way in hell!"
"Would you all talk like I really can fight my own fights?" Alice had starlted the two boys, leaning against the marble wall and chewing her bottom lip. "I'm healed and I can walk so let's get to the feast and get good seats. Where is Kanni and Tash?"
"Inside, they already saved us a good table," answered Kaleb, looking slightly flustered and nodded over to the door. "You can go ahead. Premidas and I need a private word if you don't mind. And it's not about you Alice, I promise."
"Then why bring it up?" The shape-shifter still did so as she was asked, walking through the large doors and felt more helpless to find Gabriel talking deeply with Clarissa who had been waving her hands around with Madam Lunna seated next to her. Themrus and Ulthar were watching the students with one hand writing down notes on some napkin. Several people had shoved by Alice just to get a good seat, ignoring the swearing Alice had been doing. Finally she spotted Kanni and Tash, seated farthest away from each other, walking to their table and asked, "Did I miss any clawing of the eyes?"
--"She is my responsibility, and you cannot take that away."
Gabriel had just seen Alice seat herself next to Kanni and another student he couldn't place a name on, not hearing and taking in what Clarissa had been saying about Premidas getting into another fight and simply whispered, "Let him get tangled in a fight. He'll learn his lesson when a spector shows him a real punishment. That's the interesting part about those four. You can't really punish them since they've gone through worse last year, Clarissa. They can just toss it all aside like a simple time out for smaller and younger children."
"Then what are you suggesting?" hissed Clarissa with a more sarcastic tone of voice.
"You can simply suspend him or put him on guard duty, it's all I can suggest."

"No, you didn't miss anything." Kanni weakly smiled as Alice sat down next to her. "You okay now? Did you hear what Prem did?"
"I'm okay. He got into another fight, right?" Alice nodded as Tash sent an angry glare at Kanni.
"She said he could do it and so he did!" Tash accused. "I thought you were supposed to be his friend. Are you trying to get him kicked out or something?!"
"No, and shut your mouth! This is between me and Alice, and neither of us invited you into the conversation so just sit and wait for your prince like a good little princess!" Kanni snarled, slamming a fist into the table. A long twisting crack splintered through the wood, winding up along the table. Tash's eyes widened and she quickly spun around, saying no more. Kanni sighed but when Alice didn't ask about it Kanni didn't explain the crack and brushed it aside.
"Yea, I over-heard Clarissa say it was the thirteenth time too! Obviously he had fought with Brad when the boy came a few weeks earlier since his parents went to Italy, and Premidas didn't like that at all." Kanni mumbled, wringing her hands so not to let her anger to get out of hand.
"Kindda like you and Tash now, right?" Alice smirked. "Why do you hate her so much?"
"Hey, I didn't start it! She did! And you know me, fights are too fun to just ignore."
"I see Premidas is also having some influence on you."
"That's not it...I'm worried Clarissa will get fed up and kick him out...I don't know what'd I do if he were expelled."
Alice cocked a brow but Kanni was too busy staring at the table to notice.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What do you want?" Premidas growled to Kaleb who was glaring at him with a stern gaze.
"Oh, drop the bad ass attitude! I know this isn't your day, but come on! I'm your best friend, do you think you could hide it from me? You can't even hide it from Kanni and Alice, Premidas." Kaleb shot back.
Premidas crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. "So what do you want to know?"
(((* i don't kno what u had Kaleb in mind saying to Prem, so I'll leave this part to you*))
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey, everyone, I'm giving away a million bucks!" Clarissa's voice suddenly hollered into a speaker-phone and the chattering suddenly ceased. Everyone directed their attention to the priciple dressed in a pink suit standing before them at her table. "Good, I thought that'd get your attention." the lady laughed at the low grumble of complaining voices.
"This year we have a new staff! I would like to welcome Mr. Gabriel Black, he will be replacing the Brewing class since Mr. Brige had to suddenly resign. I know he will be missed, but let's not dwell on the loss, shall we? Also, for Cureology we will have Mr. Bibbs, and for Star-gazing we will welcome Miss. Cozar! I know you will treat these new teachers with respect and not scare them off on their first year, right? And I'm sure you've also all witnessed our new security system called "Hall-Specters". They are not seen or felt by you, but keep in mind they always watch. They're a created creature founded by our very own Annikaology teacher, Mr. Themrus!
"They have been programmed to target rule-breakers so don't try to fool them, they are much smarter than you think. Well, enough about that. This year's new students have been sorted and I would like some of the older ones, keeping your first year experience in mind, to show them around and help them a bit. Well, now that we have that settled, I won't deprive you of the delicious food before you. Please, dig in!" Clarissa bellowed and clapped her hands.
Many little dwarves came scurrying out carrying large silver platters and plates, cups, juices, and carts were rolled alongside the tables laden with baskets and trays of food. The students didn't even wait until the plates were set on the table before reaching over and helping themselves.
Kanni swiped a goblet of red wine and took a sip, feeling the tingling sensation of warmth sliding through every vein. "Hm...where is Prem?" Kanni asked as Alice took a goblet as well, eyeing it undecidedly.
"He and Kaleb told me to go ahead. Kaleb wants a word with him." Alice lowered her voice signaling that it wasn't a good sign. Tash seemed to be listening too, but Kanni didn't care.
"You think Kaleb is gonna get on him for the fight too?"
"Probably. You're not the only one who worries for Premidas's future in this school. Clarissa hasn't kicked him out yet, but I think she's running out of punishments and might have to resort to that...then again, I hope she doesn't expell him. He has no where do go from here..." Alice's voice trailed off and Kanni got the general idea. Premidas had almost no family except for his bitch of a little sister Mari and his horrible crack-addicted mom.
"He lost the two that were closest to him, Kanni." Alice suddenly said. "I think you should know. Then maybe you can go a bit more easy on him when he has his mood swings..." And so Alice began, tracing the exact same words Premidas had told her that one late afternoon when both were in the hospital...Those days she had learned so much about him.
She told Kanni how the hijackers killed his dad who was the only person on that subway of cowards trying to save the people. How they shot him and then, unable to drive the subway, jumped the track and killed his sister who gave her life...using her body to sheild Mari and Premidas. Premidas was only ten then, and was very frightened. He barely spoke for the next two years, scarred forever by the horror Alice was sure he sometimes wished he never over lived. She secretly thought he wished sometimes the subway would have taken his life as well as almost all the rest of the passengers including the hijakcers.
And ever since then too he had gotten his horrible rage. And also after the incident he began to become a trouble-maker and got into many fights. Tash was listening intently to Alice's story and Kanni caught her nodd her head sadly in agreement to what the shape-shifter said, not adding or correcting anything. Kanni dropped her gaze. How come Premidas never told her this? Did he trust Tash, Kaleb, and Alice all more than her? She had to admit it hurt a bit.
"So you can understand why Clarissa and Kaleb are so close to him. He doesn't get close to people very much, and it takes time to win his trust. But thing is, once you are his friend, he'd do anything to protect you from the pain he had to feel." Alice ended with some admiration. And who didn't admire Premidas's devotion? If only things could have been better for him...he didn't deserve the pain.
Kanni balled up her fists. The world was so damned sometimes...hijackers, murders, terrorists, wars...what other types of pain and destruction would the humans bring upon themselves? Alice lightly patted her shoulder. "You had no idea, huh? Well, now you do. So go a bit easy on him, cause I'm sure Kaleb is really packing it into him right now for that fight."
*I'll let you do the talk between Kaleb and Prem...cause I don't kno what u had in mind for him to say to Prem, ok? ^^;*
(Okies! :3)
"..." Kaleb didn't feel like expossing the information Alice had given him, making him swear not to tell anyone. Even Premidas. The corridor was empty except for the chattering portraits eating fruit that had been painted in some of the other portraits. The animagus was now glaring at his own friend awaiting for whatever Kaleb had meant to tell him but the desicion fell hard on Kaleb. Someone needed to know or else Alice would get into more trouble with the Hall-Spectors. Premidas snorted, retorting, "What the hell would you like to know?"
"Nevermind." He couldn't. He had promised Alice not to say a word and instead forced a faint smile, waving his friend into the room. It was a hard time now seeing how the shape-shifter was being paid so much attention for every move she made. The animagus had indeed noticed the depression exposed in Kaleb when sighing after closing the door behind him, heading over to where Alice, Kanni, and Tash were seated. The three girls hadn't noticed the two until they were seated at the same table taking a goblet from the cart that had been pushed around. Many students hadn't even cared of where Alice was seated, no longer frightened by the fact that Alice had confronted Remus the year before. His own mother could be seeing blushing by a gold goblet, perhaps filled with wine, as Gabriel continued to lean over and laugh at Clarissa along with Mrs. Taint who seemed to be humble with herself for the wine. Alice, on the other hand, wasn't as quiet as Kaleb would've thought her to be with Tash sitting with them and still discussed about her vacations.
"Isn't your godfather that lunatic who had all charges dropped against him?"
The shape-shifter's eyes lolled to where Tash was seated, her legs crossed neatly and one eyebrow cocked upwards. Alice shifted the silverish hair in her face to behind her ear and hissed back with several slurs, "Yes, which gives you more reason to be afraid of me and Gabriel. He is now a respected teacher and we'd like to keep it that way."
"But I heard he had killed the judge to get his own way." That ended the entire feast for the four, watching Alice exit the large room and into the corridors as several lights blew out from above and several windows imploded on themselves.
--"Why couldn't it happen earlier, and why now?"
Doors could be heard slamming in room #131 by Kaleb who had been knocking the door frame for several minutes now after the feast had ended, waiting for Alice to open the door. Calling hadn't helped any since he always reached the answering machines. Tash had gone over the line this time and just couldn't let things go like a pit bull after Alice had left, ranting on about how she hopped Gabriel would be sacked for having such an ill-mannered god-daughter. No one had even stopped the shape-shifter due to the sudden windows imploding on themselves and the lights going out with a pop. Her powers were getting worse and more out of control. And now Alice was nowhere to be found in the corridors, leaving her own room locked. Kaleb felt nearly sick and disgusted with himself for not going after her earlier.
"Alice! Alice, come on! Open the door before I tear it off of its hinges!" The yells weren't much help and silence continued to answer Kaleb. His heart raced ahead of him as he breathed in longer heaves of air. And then Kaleb tore the lock off of the door, kicking it open to find the room in complete darkness. The entire room hadn't been touched since Clarissa had ordered the house elves to tidy each room up. The messaging machine beeped with a number flashing, begging to be heard once more which meant that Alice had listened to the messages before leaving the room. If only Tash had kept her mouth shut then the whole evening would've been saved and enjoyable compared to this. Kaleb had looked once more around hissing loudly into the dusk, "Dammit! Why does she always have to be so complicated?"
He knew why and he was ashamed to act like he never knew. Kaleb had then shook it out of his head and exited the room to run through the corridors as he moved students over with a wave of his slender fingers to move easier. He needed to think of where Alice would retreat to. It must've been some place where Gabriel once was with her, only discussing small things that didn't make a change in the flow of things at all. Uncrowded, quiet, and dark. The roof. Often enough Kaleb had brought Alice up to the roof to help with homework instead of doing it at the library. Taking a turn, Kaleb headed to where the fastest way to the roof was and was surprised to find another Hall-Spector suspend another student. They were appearing very much for just the first day of school to begin.
The ladder that led through the higher floors was weak, but Kaleb had held it firmly against the wall with his powers to keep it strong. Dust continued to engulf his feet each step meaning that no one had used this ladder recently. Cold drafts were felt through the narrow passage after going another story higher from where Kaleb orginally started. Soon stars were seen in the dark sky as Kaleb climbed onto the tall roof, hearing a small voice that hadn't been recognized by him until his fists steadied himself on the wide roof to find Alice perched on the edge of a fire place that no longer spitted out smoke.
"Why the hell did you even try to find me?"
The question came so sudden that Kaleb hadn't even expected it. "Because I found it nessecary to come after you before you got a hold of Tash's hair. And I-"
"You told Premidas about me, didn't you?" Whispered Alice, her eyes shining brillantly over her shoulders. "You told him after I made you swear that you wouldn't."
"I was about to, okay? I admit that but I didn't. And I didn't come here to recieve sarcasim from you," whispered Kaleb to her, finding it easier to talk to Alice when she wasn't facing him. "Tash should've kept her mouth shut, alright? But you don't understand us, Alice. You and Kanni just seemed to come alive again and we had no idea what had been going on between you or Remus. We didn't even know what had happened until Ulthar showed up."
"Well then Mr. Agretto. If you think you understand me so much then why not write a book about me?" Kaleb wouldn't take this, pulling Alice down from the chimey to pull her in his coat, pressing his face against her shoulder and whispering, "I won't take this from you Alice. I can't. We all know what happened but that doesn't mean you can swing by me so easily."
-"I can't leave this place and you should know that."
"Meh." Clarissa had been coaxed by Themrus and Gabriel to not continue screeching of how many students had been suspended today, her face buried into her hands and continued to redden as her hair was combed out by a small pixie with a large comb. 53 students had encounted the Hall-Spectors today and recieved punishment. And Clarissa still needed to think of one for Premidas to teach him a lesson. Too many things were already happening for her to find out that Ulthar's daughter had been coming into her office to discuss if it was wise to allow Gabriel to teach any more and the animagus was fummed in a large red armchair, his arms crossed and continued to glare at Clarissa hissing, "Do you think it is wise enough?"
"Gabriel! The girl is just a child who doesn't have any idea of politics or how to keep an entire school under control!" Whispered Clarissa. "Themrus, is there anyway the Spectors made some kind of mistake with the number?"
"It's against their nature to cause a flaw," answered Themrus, looking worried to find Gabriel tapping his foot impatiently. "And we shouldn't be frightened by some girl who has her head in the clouds my dear friend."
--"I can't take it anymore...the way you cry...all the pain you feel inside. Please, let it all go...let me take it all away...please don't hurt anymore..."
"Crawling" by Linkin' Park boomed in her ears as the milthacti made her way down the halls. She needed some refuge...some place to go to escape all the rush. Some place peaceful. The roof. Kaleb had taken her there several times after when they tried to escape Snoop that one night last year. Maybe there she could find something that was missing. She changed the song to "Burning Years" by Story of the Year (( a very good song too! rivals linkin park on my charts list. ^^). She lightly sang along and hummed to the words... "I think that nothing can fly with this broken wing..." her voice trailed off into another hum.
"Miss Merrane, may I have a word with you?" Ulthra's voice made the milthacti suddenly switch off her CD player.
"Yes, Mr. Ulthra?" She side-stepped from the halls towards the door her stood by. His forehead was creased with wrinkles of age and concern and he didn't look too happy.
"May I inquire if you know how Miss Black suddenly got powers like those she demonstrated in the Great Hall?"
Kanni blinked, dumbfounded. "I-I...No, I can't answer that."
"Because you don't know or you don't want to tell me?"
"The first. I have no idea...and now may I inquire your interest in this topic?"
Mr. Ulthra lowered his head and half closed his eyes. "Have you been using your powers very much lately?"
"Well, yes...not as much as last year, but I have. They seem to be settling down though."
"Ah. Just as I thought." Mr. Ulthra then suddenly seeped into the ground below.
"Huh?! Wait!" Kanni dove forth but only caught empty air between her fingers. What did Mr. Ulthra mean? Could something be going wrong already? She sighed. Now she needed that refuge on the roof more than ever.
-- "If I push it all away...block it all out, then I'll be okay, right?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Tash! Don't you ever hold your mouth?" Premidas scolded his friend who was running her fingers through her bright orange hair. She flipped it over her shoulders and shrugged.
"Guess not."
"Tash! That wasn't funny!"
"And I didn't mean it to be! I was merely excericing my thoughts and rights of public speaking and suggestion." Tash retorted with a bored look.
"I see you haven't changed a bit." the animagus growled.
"And I see you have! I can't beleive you hang around those two girls. They could wreck your whole reputation and look what that Kanni girl has gotten you into already? Do you always fight their battles? Are they really that weak?"
"..."
The two were sitting outside again, on the benches, now that the feast had slightly dwindled and students were allowed to walk of their heavy stomachs only to come back and fill it up again later. Premidas had this time, with Tash's nagging, put on a heavy brown coat and didn't shiver from the cold, only the chills jolting up his spine every now and then. After what his friend had said Alice had stormed out, soon followed by Kanni and Kaleb. And Tash didn't seem the least bit guilty feeling. He groaned and rubbed his brow.
"See? Look what they're doing to you...You've been nothing but stressed ever since school started-"
"-which hasn't even been a day yet," Premidas interjected.
"Usually you're carefree and wild on the first day of school, playing pranks on everyone and causing playful trouble...not getting your face ripped up with fists and strangling people to death!" Tash yelled, both fists clenched now. "Can't you see what you're becoming? This isn't the Premidas Anthen I knew-"
"-well I've changed Tash! And maybe you will never know how much, but I've changed, damnit!" Premidas roared, jumping to his feet and slamming a fist into the wood. Tash backed to the side, surprised by his rage. Then her eyes dropped in sorrow and her hands folded gently in her lap.
"I see." she whispered.
Premidas growled. How come she always did this? She always acted to sad when he got mad, like it physically hurt her. He couldn't take it anymore. All these people all suddenly jumping onto his back. He wanted away. He turned on his heel and stormed away with a heavy brsik pace, with only one destination in mind: the roof. That's where he always went when he needed to escape, also where he and Kaleb would plot out pranks and excuses to get them out of the trouble.
He wheeled into the hallway and towards the secret passage door. She hissed "sundae" to it and the door parted. Into a narrow and dark passage he scrambled, the door rumbling shut behind him. Then he came to the spiraling stair case, and rushed up it, suddenly slamming into someone else.
"Ouch!" Kanni's voice snarled and shuffling noises were made as she picked herself up.
"Kan? What the hell are you doing here?"
"Good question. Let me know when you think you know the answer." Kanni retorted.
Premidas growled. "You need to get away too?"
"Why else? But looks like I'll have to go now cause you're going up there. How in the hell will I get peace with you in the same area?"
"Ha, ha, Kanni. Funny, but I'm not laughing. And what do you mean by that?! How about I go to one side of the roof, and you to the other."
"Sounds good to me. But I want peace...and quiet!"
"Alright, alright, sheesh..." Premidas sniffed and followed the milthacti up the stairs. The girl pushed through the broken window and clambered out into the shackled roof, bracing her feet against the ridges for the snow and ice made it extreamly slippery, and the air was feircly cold.
Premidas crawled up behind her when suddenly her right foot slipped on an ice patch. Kanni's hands scraped at the snow for a hold, but could find none in time. She slammed against Premidas as he tightened his hold on the shackles to hold both of them up. "Kanni, hurry! You're getting heavier," he puffed. Kanni quickly found her footing again and pushed up and away from him, making it to the flat roof top where she perched on a vent, letting the warm air shoot up all around her.
Premidas, now wet with snow, dropped both brows. "No fair! You took my favorite spot!"
"You snooze, you lose," the milthacti simply retorted.
"But I just caught you and am now soaking! I think I ought to get a bit of warm air, Miss Merrane!"
"Fine. Who said you can't? Or do you need me to help you crawl onto the vent?" she taunted with a small mischevious grin.
Premidas scowled. He could never tell with her. He swung onto the metal next to her, feeling the gusts of hot air blast up his shirt, through his coat, and all around his face, drying his wet hair. "What are you listening to?" he asked when he saw Kanni pull out her portable CD player.
"A mixed CD my friend back at home gave me as a farewell gift."
"Oh...Do you miss it?"
"Miss what?" Kanni's voice slightly softened.
"Miss what you left behind? All your friends, family...and your normal life? Or, to put it better, your hopes of a normal life?"
"Do you?" she retaliated and he hesitated.
"No." His voice was firmer than he expected it to be. But she didn't seem to notice his unsteady breath.
"Sometimes I do too." she admitted and then turned up her CD player until his slightly pointed ears could pick it up even through the blare of the vents. The stars shone so lonely above him. They were sort of how he was...Surrounded with many other stars just like it, all sharing the sky, yet each single one always looked to forlorn...so lost. He sighed. He turned to say something to Kanni but then realized she wouldn't be able to hear him through the music. Just when he was about to say something, she wouldn't hear. Every other time she was ready to listen and talk, and now that he finally wanted to get the weight off his chest, he was too late. And it seemed he always was.

--"The world can move ahead of us, and it won't make a difference with me."
Alice's eyes fluttered open to take in the morning light shining brightly through the glass windows in the room. Snow was still caked onto things outside, giving sign that the wierd weather was still continuing on the second day. Today classes would begin for the students to know where to go and it was the day where Alice would have to go through torture just to go to a fifth year Defense Class. She didn't want to go through it all. It was too predicted of what Alice would have to do to get her own powers under control and most of it didn't sound like the shape-shifter didn't even have a hope of doing any of it. Gabriel had been right before they left their house to come back. Perhaps they should've gone to another school or most of this would never happen. Especially the lonely and jealous feeling that seemed to brew in Alice's veins when watching other students enjoy their own unfamous and quiet life here. The shape-shifter simply then bristled the problems away to sit up on her bed to find Gabriel sitting on the bed as the large white dog, digging his paws into a pillow that continued to spit out feathers. Alice plucked out several of the feathers from her own hair asking, "I gather you didn't have a good day either then..."
"How nice of you to notice." Everyone was tired after the long feasts and now they all had to deal with a large dance tonight to welcome fifty students or so from another gifted school as exchange students and visitors to be taught here for some time. That certainly explained why Clarissa had set the classes today to be only thirty minutes long. Once again Alice could imagine herself decorating in the halls like last year for a dance. It would certainly mean that all of the students by now who heard about it all would be asking out anyone tonight and going to the Mall Department here. But it was also Kanni's birthday today, making it all the more special. The shape-shifter had even remembered that today they could go into the city after the classes or they could skip some of the classes to go. Perhaps not seeing how they had Hall-Spectors. Alice soon shot up from the bed to tap the button on her answering machine that flashed a bright red 26 over and over. Several of them were from Kaleb when he had gone to look for her last night. And the rest were screamers about how evil Alice was for scaring Kaleb so much for him to look like he was her friend. It was all too pathetic for anyone to listen to, yet the answering machine kept on going.
"And how dare you even frighten the boy that he can't even have a mind of his own!"
The large white dog, Gabriel, had been whining and swaying his tail every time Alice walked past him, continuing to dig his paws into the pillow. The shape-shifter ignored Gabriel and the rest of the messages as she quickly pulled on a loose green sweater and a orange tee underneath, wearing the torn dark denim jeans before combing quickly through her silverish hair before Alice snatched her keys from the table and slid her middle finger through the large medal ring. She wanted today to be much better than yesterday was, which certainly meant for Tash not to come in the first place or Kanni might tear the girl's hair out all together. Alice opened the door, watching Gabriel pad on out into the corridor where he shifted into his own human form, continuing to glare at Alice who had been locking the door properly.
"Can you ignore me any longer? Can't you see that-" Gabriel halted himself, taking in a deep breath before hissing, "Prem's litte friend called Tash is now having me looked at being sacked because you are such an ill-mannered little girl of mine, apparently. So Miss Black...what the hell did you do this time to piss of some people?"
"First, Tash was the one to piss me off. I was just the one who got up and left the feast. If you don't believe me you can ask Kaleb-"
"I know I can ask him since he was the one who brought you to your room last night." Alice blushed, spinning on her heel for Gabriel not to see and felt her own face return to it's natural tint before walking furthor down the corridor, deciding to find Kaleb or Premidas to find out when they wanted to leave to celebrate Kanni's birthday in the city. The food court had been severly crowded with students anxious to journey into the city and then were discouraged by the fact that they needed a ride to leave, making Alice feeling more proudly about herself for taking a test that she never thought might come in handy. The animagus, on the other hand, hissed and mumured as he walked through the corridors with his godchild and ignored the friendly waves from the portraits who had once been in his office. The shape-shifter finally looked over her shoulders back at Gabriel, whispering, "Are you really that scared of Tash? Ulthar made an amazing defense for you last year that caused the whole court drop charges due to it all!"
"It doesn't matter, kiddo. As long as this girl, Tash as you call her, is snooping around about us doesn't make anything good. And what was with the light show at the Great Hall?" asked Gabriel, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall. "You left and suddenly every window implodes and the bulbs pop, without Kanni's help too. Is there something that you've been hiding from us as well as from Kanni perhaps?"
"Of course not." Liar. Liar, liar, liar! Alice even hated herself more for saying that phraise, turning around to continue walking and yelled inside her head for saying it. However what Alice found interesting about it was that the powers were beginning to become idenitcal with whatever last possessed her; which meant it could rang from Remus, Lori, and Kanni. Or maybe it was just the spare amount of energy that was beginning to evolve that reminded Alice that she hadn't used her own powers for some time now. Suddenly her veins exploded with a warmth that felt somehow strange, feeling red mists of swirls surrond every limb till Alice took form of a large black dog that reminded herself of last year so much. Gabriel looked slightly shocked to find himself arguing with a dog, rubbing his elbow before being called by Madame Lunna for assitance.
That left Alice alone to find Premidas, Kanni or Kaleb. Several students were already carrying their dresses around as if they were several thousand dollars worth of fabric. The dog instead headed outside to to gazebo where she found Kaleb at, sitting on the side and watching another fight brew on. She completely ignored everything else and sat behind Kaleb before barking loudly to grab his attention, and she had with barking once more.
His expression looked terribly shocked until he finally relized that it was Alice. "Why don't you shift back? You can enjoy the warm breeze that's been going around. Did you find Kanni yet so we can to the city early like you told me last night?"
"No not yet..." Whispered Alice, shifting back as asked and sat with Kaleb on the side of the gazeebo. Too many things gave her the insecure and contaminated feeling most of the time here. Like Alice was helpless and nothing would change it. No matter what happened. It was now a part of her. Kaleb could already see the disturbance in Alice's thoughts, trying to decide of what to do next and if they should wait at breakfeast for Kanni and Premidas to show up, and even with Tash maybe since the girl would be hanging all over Premidas. He then jumped down from the wall, offering Alice his hand and saying, "Let's go and get some breakfeast. I'm sure we'll meet them back inside the school rather then out here."
--"I don't want to believe in this all...I don't understand, why can't it just go away?"
The food court was warmer than any other room in the entire building, heated by goblins that Themrus had brought in that were warming up heaters on the side of the walls. And students were still swapping invitations to the dance tonight as Kaleb and Alice found themselves a booth. The shape-shifter offered to go and get some breakfeast, squeezing Kaleb's shoulder gently before walking up to the empty large table. Some students were already aware that Alice had been near them, and instead ignored the girl to continue talking to whoever. It was slightly amazing how this all seemed like foul play. Bringing back the food, Alice had managed to avoid to trip over people's feet that stook out with intent, and then with the owner turning bright red to find Alice smiling back at them. Kaleb couldn't get over the fact about Tash last night, helping Alice set the tray on the table to begin eating.
"Excuse me."
A girl was leaning over Alice's shoulders, holding back long and thick blonde curls with a pencil behind her ear. The girl was the same age as Kaleb, who looked slightly unsure of to send his breakfeast flying at her or to stay seated and listen to her. The girl then blushed to find Alice staring back at her with a quizzical look. This wasn't planned at all from what the girl's face looked like. All Alice could tell was that the girl's name was Josefine by the sewed name on the scarf tightly wrapped around her neck. She began once more to speak, "I would've liked to know if...i-if you- I mean we! If we could go to the dance toget-"
"No thanks." It was so quick that Alice had to take another minute to process what had just happened. However Josefine looked to be on the verge of tears and giggles, walking away quicker in the deepest shade of red Alice had ever seen in her life and finally asked, "Should I ask or leave it all alone?"
"Leave it all alone. You don't want to hear half the things I have to say about these girls. Always with their heads up in the sky. The older ones are the ones to be with since they don't care about those things anymore. You're even lucky to be in that fifth year Defense Class," said Kaleb, drinking from his mug.
"So Themrus told you about that class?"
"Trust me, if any teacher knows it's going to be found out by a student," he answered. "So then it's really no use trying to keep something secertized here at all."
"You can say that again."
"Did you decide to tell Gabriel or even Kanni about your..."
"...powers? No, not yet. I've heard that Ulthar has been snooping around lately from other students who didn't even know I was there."
"Well, whatever you heard was true since he was asking me last night after I brought you back to your own room."
"How comforting..."
"I still don't understand why you just don't tell them."
"Because I can't! To just come up with these powers is abnormal, Kaleb!"
"Which is why you're here! To learn how to control them."

"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday dear Kanni, happy birthday to you! And many more!" voices rang in high supranos and deep bases in her ear. Kanni grinned, pushing the covers down from her knees, rubbing her tired eyes.
"Thanks mom and dad. Hey Riku, hey Sara." Kanni answered with a tired voice.
"We love you honey! We wish we could have been there for your birthday, really....so do us a favor and throw yourself a party, okay?" Mrs. Merrane's voice hollered in the background. Kanni's friend back at home, Riku, giggled.
"Yea, I miss you too weirdo. We'll call again later, and you better have a really good party story to tell us!! And who knows? Maybe that Premidas you keep telling us about will finally fess up on your special day..." Riku's voice taunted.
"Oh shut up Riku...you're a hopeless romantic!"
"Well by those pictures we can gladly trade any time you want! I'll take him and you can have Roy!"
Kanni smirked. She had taken pictures of the year, towards the end, and had taken them home to show off to her friends. Sara went wild over Kaleb's picture, jealous of Alice, and Riku nearly stole Premidas's number off Kanni's slider cell-phone phone book. Kanni though she actually had the number, but wasn't sure, too embarrassed to ask Prem if he had gotten any calls from a screaming girl lately. Then again he might just reply, "Many".
"Ok, honey, we have to go now." Mr. Merrane's voice smoothly said on the other side of the phone. Those dreaded words...
"Okay. You'll call again later?"
"Of course. Here, say bye to her." Then Mrs. and Mr. Merranes' voices chorused, "Good bye honey! We love you!"
"As do we! We'll call you again later. By the way, any chance that Kaleb and Alice aren't together anymore?" Sara's high pitched voice asked and Kanni heard Riku make a comment only to yelp when she got slapped. Kanni chuckled. "Good bye, Sara!"
"No, wait! What about Kaleb-?"
"Forget Kaleb! Where's Premidas? Anywhere near you right now? Can I talk to him?" Riku stole the phone back and puffed in with heavy breaths.
"No." Kanni growled. This was all too funny. "Sorry, but maybe I can snatch one when you call later, okay?"
"Okay!"
"Bye now."
"Bye, bye Kanni!"
Click. The line went dead. Kanni lay down the phone and rubbed her brow. Shafts of sunlight streaked through her translucent light yellow curtains draped across the glass doors leading out onto the porch balcony. Kanni slipped from her covers, her feet touching the soft thin carpet as she strode over to the doors and ripped open the curtains, sliding open the doors she stepped out onto the cold white stone outlet.
Yes. She had nearly fallen asleep on the heat vent up on the roof last night, faintly remembering that Premidas had awoken her when he left as well which was who knew how late. She had stumbled back to her room and crashed. Premidas had surely headed for bed then too. The icy air nipped her bare arms and her lilac purple hair was a mess, and the freezing snow gathered on the porch floor and gate made her feet turn a bright red, soon growing numb. Kanni decided to turn back in and closed the doors again, taking a hot shower and then picking out the clothes from her suitcase that still lay half un-packed on her floor.
She finally settled on a short-sleeved blue sweater and pulled a white jacket over it, slipping into some faded jeans that had strings keeping them tied down the right outside of her leg. She slipped into her black K.Swiss shoes and headed out the door, suddenly remembering Rothen. She ought to go pick him up right after the trip out of the city that they would take just a few hours before the dance so they could pick up the exchange students and shop a bit for a dress.
Pulling out into the hall she closed the doors firmly behind her and turned around, facing many students. They were everywhere and she couldn't wait to separate from them in the city. All classes would only be thirty minutes so they'd have time to go to the city, and Kanni couldn't wait to get her hands on some cake at a nice café with outside seats so she could watch the flakes fall from the sky. She missed her family at times like these....and wished Riku and Sara could come every now and then to visit as well.
Her stomach grumbled loudly as she made her way to the food courts. Loud yells sounded through the doors and when the elevator doors slid open Kanni leapt out to see what was going on, just in time to see Premidas throw a hard upper-cut at another green-haired boy that seemed to be the same age, maybe even a bit older than Prem himself.
"Premidas Anthen!" Kanni yelled at the top of her lungs as Premidas ducked a swing from his now provoked opponent. Premidas twirled around to see her racing at him. He then dropped into a crouch to narrowly escape another punch.
"Prem, get your ass outta there!" Kanni ordered. Premidas almost smirked as he made a sudden dart towards her and then stood up, scratching the back of his neck.
"Yes?"
"Are you fricken crazy?!" Kanni roared. The fight stopped now, all listening to the milthacti scolding the animagus. "You'll get your damned ass kicked out and expelled for sure if you keep this up, Mr. Anthen!"
Premidas slightly reddened. "The hall-specter hasn't come yet-"
"-I don't care! You keep yourself outta trouble now!" Kanni balled up both fists.
Then suddenly Premidas flew forward, a fist slamming into his neck. Kanni quickly side-stepped and grabbed his arm, helping him rebound. He tore from her arms and was upon the student within seconds, landing his knuckles squarely in the jaw. Kani winced as the action brought blood to the split lip of the other boy and then she hardened. No matter what Prem went through, she wasn't going to let him throw it all away.
She bolted forward and rammed fully into him, making him tumble over and back onto his feet, skidding across the ground with a surprised look. Kanni rolled to her feet too, her shoulder probably bruised now from the impact. The green-haired student also looked surprised. Kanni quickly, before having to encounter any other confrontation of any sort, got to her feet. She rushed to Prem and grabbed his arm, tugging him down the hall towards the entrance of the food court. Maybe the hall-specter didn't get alarmed yet and they'd get away.
(sry tis a bit short. gotta study!! ^^)

"Not another one." Loud cries and chants had been heard outside in the food court where many students left to see what was going on. It had been yet another fight. The shape-shifter sighed loudly, kicking her feet up on the spare chair with a strand of her silverish hair coiled around one of her slender fingers. There would be too many students soon expelled, Alice had the distinct feeling that always made her heart race ahead of her whenever the strange experience brewed and boiled in her veins. However, Kaleb watched with complete interest and had Alice's keys to the Liberty Jeep dancing in mid-air with complete swirls and twirls. They were waiting for Kanni and Premidas to go into the city for Kanni's birthday and hopefully get to the car without being drawn into the fights. Now Kaleb raised his attention from the set of flying keys to the door where Kanni was dragging in Premidas, scowling at each other as Alice raised herself from the seat, her thin frown curling into a toothfull grin while Kaleb leaned on her for support, seeing how his scarf was coiled on him.
"Ready, birthday girl?" asked Alice, watching Kanni smile and then watch Alice throw her keys into the air and catch them once more. "Let's go before Gabriel decides to take the Jeep for a spin, somethign that I will not permit at all!"
They all felt easier once leaving the school where Hall-Spectors had just been on alert, swarming through the halls to suspend students. Several cars from the parking lot had been missing to perhaps be driven to the city yet Alice directed her friends to the Liberty Jeep that sat between two smaller cars, silver and with wings painted on the hood in black. It was Alice's car, so she might as well enjoy it. Premidas quickly gawked at the car before crawling into the back watching the shape-shifter start the car to have the engine growl before Kaleb climbed into the passenger seat as Kanni sat next to Premidas in the back. Snow was still caked onto the windows causing them to wait several minutes for the snow to melt off before driving through the freezing weather. Alice behind her and asked, "I've got to head somewhere myself once I get into the city so you two can go and find some cafe and Kaleb will meet you there once he gets his own errands done, alright?"
"How can we not disagree? You're the one with the car Alice," sneered Premidas, combing back his hair before looking out the window to find the Jeep leaving the school's gates.
It was a different perspective to be leaving the school just for several hours to venture out into the city for Kanni's birthday. The road had been rough for the Jeep to steer through yet it managed to get past the rough parts and through the streets. Several students could be seen walking on the streets, peering into stores which reminded Alice sharply of the dance tonight and how she would need to go look for one before going back to the school. Kaleb hadn't said anything to the conversation in the back between Kanni and Premidas for several minutes, awaiting for Alice to bring the car into a parking space. The snow still fellt heavily, remind Alice of the abnormality in herself. This would be a chance to forget everything yet Alice hadn't been planning to just forget it all so easily. Not where she was planning to visit.
"Here we are! Remember, we're meeting at this store in an hour and a half, alright?" Kaleb had already set a meeting spot once Alice brought the Jeep to a stop between two white lines. Kanni crawled out of the car, eager to walk through the city as Premidas complained about the coldness of the weather. Soon enough they all seperated to meet up later, all of them had things to do before coming to a big celebration for Kanni's birthday.
--"I don't understand why you couldn't have told us, yet why to some stone who has been here for several years that can't even hear you?"
The graves that were surronded by tall walls were now caked in snow, crunching below feets and heavy boots. Leaves of the trees were beginning to fall onto the graves here making them all look so lonely as if no one cared about them. True, for the graves here belonged to people whose families were mostly ashamed of them for what they did. Alice now stood here, infront of a stone that seemed so uncared for compared to the others here. Dead roses froze under the stone, their petals frosted and their thorns shriveled. Kneeling down her eyes could read the name and only breathed in another cold draft seeing Marco Black. Her father, who had died because Remus just had a grudge against him that might haven't even been there if her father hadn't been a Verae. Alice would've died like her own father did, he was possessed and drained just so that Remus could kill more. It was depressing for the shape-shifter to come and visit here on a day that should've been more cheerful, and instead Alice was here staring back at her own father's grave. The snow flakes were now tangled with her hair and stuck to her scarf as the cold drifts fought against Alice. Why was she even here? Marco was dead, and Alice would've been too but she wasn't. She was alive and healthy despite the contaminated feeling she felt so often.
"And on a day like this..." Alice pressed her face in her knees, feeling survielance and didn't care. Remus nearly killed her and it wouldn't pass by Alice so easily for it would be something that haunted her for the rest of her life. Sneezing several times her hands threw back the roses to stand up, sniffling before walking closer to the stone to dust off the snow to find clawing marks in the stone, somewhat similar to Gabriel's. So the animagus lied, he had gone here to morn for his best friend's death after his own godchild nearly died. It changed everyone yet Alice felt foolish to continue to morn over this. As people may like, Alice saved their lives and they could see it that way or not, but it didn't change what really happened.
"Purple, green, black...Why does our Verae continue to morn?"
And Alice could still hear that voice that frightened her so much, feeling only more angry with her and threw her fists into the ground, hearing the snow crunch under her fists. Her chest heaved in air with a temper. Alice felt weak to be here and to continue to fear Remus. But who didn't? The man was powerful and had a lust to kill people who did nothing to him. This was supposed to be Kanni's special day and Alice instead had to come here and only remind herself more of last year. A blue mist then seeped from her skin, coiling around her fingers and upwards to her arm, melting the snow around her. It felt somehow comforting and yet strange. Alice still felt watched and didn't really care. She still considered herself a freak, no matter what people said...
"He was the man who left you all..."
--Only because he felt Remus and his lust inside of him. Alice's mother, Mrs. Black had driven her own husband out of the house accusing him of several crimes that there couldn't be possible for him to do. It was only to get him and Remus away, to out cast him from the family. So Remus had been after her from the start, knowing things that got Alice emotional and weak easily as a Verae. And Gabriel's role was to sit and watch everything play out to Remus's plan, murdering his best friend without regret. Nothing was easy to understand about what had happened when her father, Marco Black, had left the house with Remus in him. Was Remus giving Marco the chance to simply control himself or was it that Remus needed to see whoever was related to this man? Her godfather had enough to deal with right now, yet it wouldn't stop them both from thinking over it and wanting answers to it all.
Several more flakes landed on the tomb stone, only adding to the pile of snow that Alice had swept off of it before. Not many people visited Marco and Alice felt like she was perhaps to be the first in some time now. The roses looked to be several weeks or even months old, nearly crumbling whenever Alice picked on up. A candle stood under the tomb stone covered in snow and leaves. The shape-shifter hadn't moved, tracing the name in the stone with her finger, feeling some heat from the stone. The survielance of someone watching her grew more, yet Alice only thought it might be some bird or another person to come and grieve over another stone...

Kanni trudged down the snow covered sidewalk, staring into all the shops and stores which glew with a friendly warm light. Soft singing came from some houses and Kanni, if she hadn't known better, thought it would have been near Christmas. She sighed. What had she come here for? To try and make herself feel normal? As if. It was no use. She couldn't convince anyone she was happy with it all, for she couldn't even convince herself. And now here she was, all alone, walking in the cold as her hot breath misted in the air before her.
Then a particular store caught her eye; its windows were laden with an amass of pendulums, candles, inscence burners, and other strange things such as crystal balls and symboled amulets. She pushed open the door and felt a strange heat within. "Ah, hello there. Let me know if you need any help with anythin', okay?" A plump red-haired woman stood behind the counter and spoke with a heavy Irish accent.
"Sure." Kanni examined the strange things, not even knowing what half of them were. But they kept her occupied and that's all that mattered now. A large black ball, what seemed to have a small sphere made of opal in its center, hung from a thick twine of rope, slightly dangling back and forth. It was about as big as Premidas's hand, and lightly rocked as if someone invisible were tapping it. Kanni eyed it and then her brows dropped.
"Swinging, swinging my little ethling, swing your days away. Swinging, swinging, my little ethling, swing your nights away. Swinging, swinging, my little ethling, why do you hate life so? Swinging, swinging, my little elthling, into the black you go."
Kanni took a step back, her eyes flitting to the lady behind the counter. Almost instantly the lady looked up. Kanni fixed her gaze on the ball again. The white opal sphere was becoming a deep hazy royal blue. "That is what we call an Arisstof. The anceint race of people called Antassik used to use it for their "magic". Of course, these people were only a myth, people that lived in the winter forests and frozen seas. They loved the cold, that's why their ball is as black as the chilling night."
"I see." Kanni hastily nodded her head. "How much is it?"
The lady raised a brow. "Well...looking at it by size, and weighing it, I'd say about fifty dollars. But...today is a speacial discount day. So I'd say about twenty bucks."
Kanni took out an envelope she received from her parents that morning. "Okay. I'll take it."

Premidas plopped down in a seat. He had arrived early at the café and called Kaleb, Alice, and Kanni on his cell phone about the location. It was the Rainforest Café, and had seats under a glass roof so one could still be warm but also see the flakes fall, as Kanni wanted. (rainforest cafe is a real place too!! Only been there once thou) Kanni and the rest were on their way now, and Prem had gone ahead and gotten a table for them all. He grumbled as he rubbed his arms for a little more warmth, slowly heating up with the nice tempurature in the café.
Premidas grumbled quietly to himself. He had no earthly idea what to get Kanni for her birthday, and couldn't get some time alone with Alice to ask her if she had any ideas. He called Alice and asked her to come a bit faster so that they might get a few minutes before Kaleb and Kanni came, but with the way Alice's tone sounded he sort of doubted she was ready to rush back so quickly. It actually sounded like she had been crying, which he wouldn't beleive unless he saw it with his own eyes.
He sighed once more, picking up the menu and skimming the desserts with little interest. Suddenly his eyes caught a bright orange flash as someone plopped into the chair before him. Prem forced himself not to grimace. "Tash...what are you doing here?"
"Ulthra said I could get to know the students better when they were out and about acting normal." Tash replied and grabbed a menu. "So, what are we having?"
"Um, Tash...It's Kanni's birthday today...I'm waiting on her and the others."
Tash didn't even try to hide her disdain. "O-oh...I see." She rose again. "Well, I can understand. If they ask where I am, tell them I'm not here, okay? I don't want to see them right now. I'll be wandering about. Will you come meet me sometime? I want to introduce you to some friends and catch up."
"Sure." Prem grumbled and Tash waved before prancing away. She had it all backwards. Kanni and his friends didn't want to see her either, but she thought they did. It was sort of funny. Then again, not so.

"Okay. I'm coming." Kanni hung up. Kaleb had called to say they were all waiting at the café for her. Kanni rest the ox under her arm and slid her phone back onto her hip belt. She turned towards the café. "Ah...the Rainforest Café, is it? I love this place!"
"Me too." Alice was standing at the doorway, her jeep parked before the restaurant. "Did you buy something? Want to put it in the car?"
"Sure."
Alice opened the car door and Kanni carefully set the box on her seat, locking the doors as she joined Alice again, both turning into the café. "There she is." Kaleb greeted with a broad grin. "Did we give you enought time to yourself before smothering you with attention?"
"Yea." Kanni lightly smiled and sat down inbetween Alice and Premidas.
"I already ordered, if you don't mind. But don't worry, I think I picked the right thing for once." Premidas's eyes brightened as a few workers came striding their way with plates laden with thick peices of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla cake and whipped cream toppings, each having a large cherry perched at the peak of the whipped topping stack.
"I didn't know which flavor you all liked best, so I got 'em all." Premidas smirked as the waitress brought three plates to him. "Of course I liked them all, so it was a good excuse."
"Premidas! We don't have enough money!" Kanni scolded as soon as the waitresses were out of hearing range.
"Hey, hey! This is your birthday, Kanni. Only Alice, Kaleb, and I have to wash." He laughed when Kanni's glare darkened. "I'm just kidding! You think I'd be so arrogant? I got it all covered." Premidas rose his glass of water, "Cheers to Kanni now officially turning sixteen!"
The others raised their glasses as well, lightly clanking them together and all echoing, "Cheers!" Then they sang a quick birthday song to Kanni before attacking their slices with hungry eyes. Kanni at that point could've eaten a horse, but three different slices of cake would do.

"I gather that Kanni deserves something special!" Their day at the cafe couldn't have been better for the shape-shifter who leaned on Kaleb, laughing and tied in giggles as they all watched waitresses and waiters bring Kanni a small square cake with one small candle in the middle, lit and threw sparkles as it's flame bit at the wax. It was a plan from no one other than Alice who had vanished through their party at the cafe to go secertly somewhere else, completely sure that she wanted to make this more than special. Alice had started out this trip out badly with revisiting her father's grave, the best friend of her godfather and the man who brought her into this world. Perhaps revisiting the past was a bad idea for a moment, giving Alice the urge to look forward to what might happen than what had happened. Then again the shape-shifter wasn't very motivated about doing so. Kaleb saw the distant look in Alice's eyes for one split second, enveloping her with one arm to find her purple and green eyes flicker torwards him in response. Premidas had been trying to hold back jokes about the small cake that couldn't serve much of anyone, yet it was the complete thought that counted for Kanni who was listening to the chorus of Happy Birthday.
This was the party that Alice would kill to have with her own mother and living with the dog that was only known as Snuffles, rather than Gabriel. Miss Black wasn't much envolved with the facts that her children had birthdays that wanted to be celebrated and instead was occupied by the status of promotions at work. Alice pushed back the silverish hair from her face, wishing that Kanni didn't feel anything near the same pain as she did. It wasn't fair for anyone to go through what Alice had and now the trama was ecthed in any part of her memory that Alice tried to meditate about without occuring to the thought that Remus had seen it. He had seen it all, and now she was more vunerable than ever. Alice was torn from the thoughts finding the waitresses and waiters walking away, wrapped in their own laughter as some patted Alice on the head to finally recieve some break from anyone from the busy crowd awaiting orders.
"I've got to go and get our birthday girl a present!" Reminded in the nick of time, Alice stood up with a toothy grin, licking frosting from her finger and handed Premidas money to pay for the meal before waving to them all and left the cafe. Whether to actually buy a present or to wander about more wasn't decided or made into a plan yet. The shape-shifter walked through the street to be glad that the crowd wasn't parting from her and entered a store, a Bridal Shop. For every girl it was a dream to buy a wedding gown and walk down the aile, as for Alice it wasn't much of a dream. More like a dream that continued to visit her once in a blue moon. There was a dance tonight, yet Alice wanted to look more away from the fancy dresses and show up into something casual until she finally remembered that one piece of information that Remus had stretched to her during their meeting.
"And since you've gotten into a fight before. Yes, we've seen it all and the Hall-Spectors were even active during that perid of time. So you will be serving as one of those waitresses resturuants have. What are those? Ah, who cares. It will be your punishment Alice, don't give me any lip and you can serve in the food court if you continue to argue."
What rotten luck, especially on Kanni's birthday. The shape-shifter only became more furious with herself, turning away from the dresses standing in the window to walk down the street browsing at the windows debating of what to buy for Kanni's birthday. She wanted it to be special and usefull through some ways. Alice's eyes soon fell on a small shop that was much tucked away from the public between two large stores with a sign reading This&That. There were a small amount of people there and it didn't stop the girl from walking in to browse the things they had, such as dresses, jewelery and a photo album that was a light, creamy purple. It was the thing that Alice knew might be perfect, seeing that it was similar to some things Kanni owned, buying it. It would be a project to work on during the rehearsal of the large dinner tonight as a punishment and would give to to Kanni once seeing her.
-"If men have gone onto the moon, why couldn't they make a better umbrella?"
Kanni, Kaleb, and Premidas all had a ride with Tash who Alice had ran into, much against her will. However, the girl offered to drive the other three home seeing how the shape-shifter was in a rush to get to the Jeep. Alice had remembered the dinner after meeting with Premidas, Kanni, and Kaleb for two hours now deciding that it was time to go back. And the shape-shifter was now seated on the large table covered in a white table cloth, dressed in the attire that you'd find women dressed in who served at the bar in movies or rich and famous bars, with the black and white. Several other students were here too, mostly older students who were here to serve voluntarily or for fighting before the Hall-Spectors were active. And to their delight one Spector was seated in a hair in a corner, watching them all from under it's viel.
Themrus and Gabriel were there to, being to lecture Alice on how things would be better if she hadn't gotten into that fight. She didn't really care, flipping through the pages of the lilac book she had bought for Kanni, now filled with pictures of their past year. The book was put into her apron as Alice stood up, carrying a tray around to demostrate Themrus that she had been listening, soon to be lectured again with, "You could at least act like you're listening then! This is a big event to prove to your new class mates that you aren't just some silly little girl who just passed into the class! And show some happiness!"
All they got from Alice was a faint smile and narrowed eyes, hissing, "If you don't want me to be here than tell me to leave. I'd rather dance around than serve drinks to people who fear me. They probaly think I've posioned their drink!"
"It's to bring the point across that you're not as important as you look and to tell people that you're not dangerous as some may say," whispered Gabriel, walking up to Alice to brush some silver hair from her face. "Maybe if you showed a more postive addittude it might have worked earlier with these people who will be serving with you."
"Why do I have to do this? We didn't have these things last year during that dance! Or is this some cruel and unusual punishment from you all since you couldn't think of something better, is that it?" Asked Alice, looking from Gabriel to Themrus.
"You've got it right on the first try."
[Sorry it's kind of short, have to go to bed to get up early in the morning ^^;]
